Fire in exhaust fan spreads to roof at Novelis

MILL TWP. ‒ No injury was reported from a fire Monday night at the Novelis aluminum rolling factory.

A crew used the ladder truck from the Uhrichsville Fire Department to reach the roof, where they extinguished the fire within 15 to 20 minutes, according to McConnell.

Smith Ambulance examined one employee for smoke inhalation, he said. Workers had been evacuated from the factory by the time firefighters arrived.

They were called at 9:56 p.m. McConnell said firefighters from Dennison and Uhrichsville were the first to arrive at 9:59 p.m. and left around midnight.

McConnell estimated damage to the building at $50,000.

Also responding were firefighters from Warwick Township, Rush Township and the Arrowhead Joint Fire District in Gnadenhutten.
